What Could Canada Become?

September 28, 2026 | Opening Night Reception | 6-9pm, remarks at 7:00pm

Art, imagination, and one big question. Join us for opening night September 28 at NVRLND — what could this country still become?

The Public Arts Institute of Canada invites you to opening night of our next exhibition, held deliberately at NVRLND: a space that asks what Canada could look like if we let ourselves imagine it.

Multiple Calgarian artists have responded to the question at the heart of this series — what does Canada mean to you? — through the lens of possibility and the future we are building together. Canada is not finished. Neither are you.

But this isn't just something you watch. Interactive survey stations invite you to weigh in, and your responses join a growing national dataset — part of the largest open conversation about Canadian identity ever assembled.

Come for the art. Stay for the conversation. Leave something behind.

Doors 6:00–9:00 PM, remarks at 7:00. Please eat beforehand; light refreshments will be served.

Thomas Joseph Ross: The Wake Up Call, Opening Reception

Monday, August 24, 2026 | 5.30-9pm

An exhibition of mixed media works by artist, Thomas Joseph Ross, that explores identity and the act of becoming.

If you are on your first step or your hundredth, on a path toward becoming who you always wanted to be, this show is for you.

At some point, you became the version of yourself that was needed.
Reliable. Stable. Accountable.

And somewhere in that process, we each leave things behind. Sometimes by choice. Sometimes not.

The Wake-Up Call is about being a place you start to recognize it and are thinking about or creating change.

This exhibition doesn’t ask politely.
It doesn’t speak plainly.

You will be presented a series of works built through abstraction, narrative, and lived experience. Each piece confronting the quiet agreements we’ve made with ourselves over time.

The barriers that once made sense.
The identities that felt necessary.
The trade-offs we stopped questioning.

Until now.
