She/her
Kari Woo is a craft-based artist residing in Treaty 7 Territory, in the city of Calgary.
Well known for her distinct collections of contemporary art jewellery which are distributed through select design boutiques across Canada, her work at NVRLND is focused on her interdisciplinary art practice. Works might include assemblage, installations, books, sculpture and/or interactive art objects amongst other contemplations.Compelled by the guiding themes of sense of place, belonging and notions of home, the objective of much of her work is about creating meaningful dialogue, generative ideas and gestures or acts of repair.
Woo is a fine art school graduate (AUArts, 2003), a former brick + mortar shop owner, community organizer + collaborator, entrepreneur and novice gardener. Kari is always researching and finding new intersections between ideas and materials. This is where she is creatively most intrigued.
She loves chatting about these things over strong coffee and preferably under a forest canopy, beside a creek, or somewhere with a mountain view.
