Growing up on a beautiful orchard in Oliver, B.C., I have always been inspired by nature and it’s elements which I try to embody in all my art work. Not only does each piece of art capture my colorful personality, it also brings out a unique expression and interpretation of what the world means through my eyes. Although I am intensely committed to art and painting, it wasn’t until after studying Interior design at the world famous Florence Design Academy in Florence, Italy that I discovered my true passion in life - abstract painting.
All of my work is created with acrylics on vast stretch canvases. I start by visualizing the experience I want to achieve, whether it is through color, texture or composition. While visualizing with my eyes closed, I have a pencil in hand as I sketch and bring to life the composition and story of the piece. This process happens very quickly, without thought or enforcement, but with a consciousness of feeling. Once I have, what looks like to be a sketch mess of confusion, I begin my techniques of applying acrylic to canvas through the use of brush, paper, and hand. I keep going until I achieve the desired level of depth and balance between proportion and placement. Through all my work you will see attributes of being very “raw”, and “sketch-like” white still maintaining many layers of depth.
My abstract painting often conveys a message based on its overall thematic but in many cases it provokes every person’s imagination and creativity a little bit differently leaving the interpretation open to the unique individual. Through my abstract art, I cannot help but feel immensely moved when an individual allows themselves to connect and have a positive experience with my art.
When I am not in my tranquil state creating painting, you will find me in unique Inglewood, Calgary working alongside the best Interior Designers in the city. I have been so fortunate to work at Jerilyn Wright & Associates which has allowed me to expand my knowledge of Interior Design. Working in the design industry has allowed me to build a network of supporters of my art practice.
